MODE will present the ensemble project “The Orchestra of Excited Strings” by Arnold Dreyblatt at the Goethe Institute Tokyo in Akasaka, Tokyo on December 18th, 2025 (Thu.)
“The Orchestra of Excited Strings” is an ensemble project by Dreyblatt, established in New York in 1979 and has continued to update its unique methodology to the present day, despite changes in formation and a temporary break.
This performance will feature a total of five specially-formed ensembles featuring Arnold Dreyblatt, current ensemble member Berlin-based composer/instrument creator Konrad Sprenger, guitarist/improviser Joachim Schütz, and Dreyblatt’s longtime collaborator Jim O’Rourke, and Eiko Ishibashi as special guests.
This performance is Arnold Dreyblatt’s first performance in Japan in eight years since his 2017 performance in Tokyo (sponsored by SuperDeluxe @sdlx.jp ) and Kitakyushu performance (sponsored at Contemporary Art Center CCA Kitakyoshu). Dreyblatt, Sprenger, O’Rourke, and Ishibashi have been on the same stage since the performance that year, and it will be an extremely valuable opportunity.
Dreyblatt also announced his latest work “Resolve” under Arnold Dreyblatt & The Orchestra of Excited Strings in 2023 and is also set to release a collaboration with experimental band Horse Lords (Horse Lords) @horselords on November 21, 2025, and will be coming to Japan at a very remarkable time, resonating with the flow of activity.
